An article was published in the Virginian Pilot this year by of one of their own columnists as it pertains to his own experiences with lint buildup and the importance of proper dryer vent cleaning. The leading cause of such fires? “Failure to clean”, the report said.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, approximately 15,000 fires per year are attributed to excessive lint in dryers and dryer vents. Additionally, deaths and millions of dollars of property damage can occur as a result of these types of fires.

Sadly fires occur on a regular basis because lint accumulates in the dryer vent and becomes ignited by a spark which can have disastrous consequences.
